Demi Bennett better known as Rhea Ripley was born on October 11th, 1996 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. She is a professional wrestler currently signed to WWE.
Ripley began her wrestling journey at just 17 years old. In 2013 she cut her teeth in her local promotion, Riot City Wrestling. The following year she was crowned their women’s champion and also performed for several other Australian independent promotions where she wrestled Savannah Summers, Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm.
In 2015 she spread her wings further and headed to Japan. While in Japan she appeared for Pro Wrestling Diana, Reina and Sendai Girls. Upon her return to Australia a year later she became RCW Women’s Champion for the second time before WWE came calling in 2017.
WWE announced the signing of the young star in the lead-up to the inaugural Mae Young Classic. Her debut as Rhea Ripley came in the first round of the tournament against Miranda Salinas. Despite getting eliminated by Dakota Kai in the second round it was clear WWE had a future Superstar on their hands.
Her next televised appearance came at the 2018 Mae Young Classic, where she introduced her new look and smash-mouth style. Ripley stood out again as one of the focal points of the tournament, besting MJ Jenkins, Kacy Catanzaro and Tegan Nox en route to the semi-finals but lost out to Io Sharai.
Ripley’s star would continue to shine as she would be chosen to be the face of the newly formed NXT UK women’s division. She would become the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion, and the first-ever Australian to win a WWE title after she defeated Toni Storm in the finals of the 8-women tournament.
Ripley would dominate the division, defeating all pretenders to her throne such as Isla Dawn, Deonna Purazzo and Dakota Kai. She would ultimately lose the NXT UK Women’s Championship to the returning Toni Storm at NXT UK’s first TakeOver event at Blackpool.
Her main roster debut came in the form of a surprise entrant in 2019’s women’s Royal Rumble match. Later that year she returned to NXT and challenged the long-time undefeated Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Championship.
During this period, Ripley a part of NXT’s invasion of Raw and SmackDown in the lead-up to the inter-brand war at Survivor Series. Back in NXT her feud with Baszler led to the first-ever women’s WarGames match. Ripley pinned the women’s champion to win the historic match before pinning Sasha Banks the following night to win the 15-woman elimination Triple Threat for Team NXT at Survivor Series.
After her main roster triumph, she de-throned Baszler as NXT Women’s Champion ending her 400-day run in the process. Ripley then challenged Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair to a match at WrestleMania 36 for the title. A challenge that Flair accepted and was successful in.
In 2021, Ripley appeared in the Royal Rumble making it to the final two. The next month WWE began airing vignettes announcing Ripley’s arrival on Raw. Upon her official main roster debut, she challenged Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 37.
In her first singles outing on the main roster, Ripley defeated Asuka for the title. She continued to feud with Asuka over the championship before resuming her rivalry with Flair. After months of feuding, Ripley lost her title to Flair at Money In The Bank.
Ripley then teamed with Nikki A. S. H. and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Following the break up of the team she joined forces with Liv Morgan before turning heel and joining the Judgement Day.
At the 2023 Royal Rumble, Ripley made history by winning the Women’s Royal Rumble match from the #1 entry spot, setting a new record for the longest time spent in a women’s Rumble match.She went on to defeat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
As champion, Ripley dominated and held it for over a year and successfully defended it against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 40. Unfortunately, not long after, she was forced to relinquish the title due to a shoulder injury. Upon her return, she defeated LIv Morgan for the title to become a 2-time Women’s World Champion.
