Jey Uso is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi (Solofa Fatu Jr.) and Talisua Fuavai-Fatu. He has a twin brother, Jonathan (Jimmy Uso), with whom he formed the accomplished tag team, The Usos. Growing up in Pensacola, Florida, Jey attended Escambia High School, where he played competitive football. He continued his athletic pursuits at the University of West Alabama, playing as a linebacker from 2003 to 2005. Despite his initial focus on football, the rich wrestling heritage of his family eventually drew him into the world of professional wrestling.

Jey, alongside his brother Jimmy, began his wrestling career in WWE’s developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, in 2009.
